Florida 'Witch' Charged With Murder In Georgia Mom's Disappearance

A man who called himself a witch is facing a murder charge in the case of a Georgia mother who went missing in South Florida, the New York Post reported.

Reporters said 40-year-old Shanon Demar Ryan referred to himself as a "witch" and a "master of the occult arts" on his Facebook page. He was charged this week with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the disappearance of Leila Cavett.

The 21-year-old mother was last seen near Ryan's gold Lexus at a gas station in Hollywood on July 25, 2020, according to the South Florida SunSentinel. The next day, Cavett's 2-year-old son was found wandering by himself barefoot outside an apartment complex in Miramar, authorities said. This was about two miles away from the gas station. Cavett's body hasn't been found.

Ryan reportedly told authorities he last saw Cavett and the toddler at the gas station, claiming they took off in a black car to go party. The surveillance video police obtained didn't back up his story, however.

"The day after her disappearance, Ryan went to a Walmart and purchased carpet deodorant, trash bags and duct tape," reporters learned. "He later returned to the gas station where Cavett was last seen with a bottle of bleach." Footage also shows him going back and forth between a dumpster and Cavett's parked truck, throwing out women's clothing and toys, they added.

The 40-year-old has been detained since August on child neglect charges in connection to Cavett's son being abandoned last year. He was also charged with kidnapping with the intent to collect a ransom and lying to a federal officer.
