Russian-born boxer Maxim Dadashev died from injuries he suffered in a fight against Subriel Matias at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Friday (July 19).

Matias was granted a knockout victory against Dadashev in the 11th round after his trainer, Buddy McGirt, called the fight. It Dadashev's was first career loss.

Dadashev tried to leave the ring under his own power but needed help as he walked back to the locker room. He did not get very far and started vomiting before collapsing in the aisle.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma as doctors tried to relieve the swelling on his brain. On Tuesday (July 23), the hospital announced that Dadashev had died from his injuries.

"It just makes you realize what type of sport we're in, man," McGirt told ESPN. "He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing. My mind is like really running crazy right now. Like, what could I have done differently? But at the end of the day, everything was fine [in training].

"He seemed OK, he was ready, but it's the sport that we're in. It just takes one punch, man."
