Indiana Man Says He Was Refused Florist Services For His Same-Sex Wedding

Wedding preparations didn't go as planned for a gay man, who tried to buy flowers for his reception at an Indianapolis shop and was reportedly denied services after the florist learned he was marrying a man.

As per a recent NBC 4 report, David Elliott went to Avon Florist to purchase flowers for his forthcoming ceremony, but the transaction didn't go as planned when the florist learned of Elliott's sexuality. After agreeing to help with the wedding, the florist asked Elliott what kind of arrangement the bride would want and that's when he revealed that there wasn't a bride. In a Facebook post, Elliott recalled the manager's reaction. "I'm going to be on vacation then and I can't help you," she said.

Nonetheless, Elliott isn't angry about the incident and is fueling the story with hopes that it will spread awareness that businesses should be able to put personal opinions to the side when catering to the public. "Everyone has their beliefs, and you can believe whatever you want to believe," he said. "But if you’re working for the public and in the public, you should be able to set those aside for the public and for your job."
