Brian Johnson Joins Mick Fleetwood for Rendition of "Route 66"

Former AC/DC frontman (it still doesn't feel right to refer to him that way) Brian Johnson is not retired.

That much is clear from Johnson's regular collaborations since leaving AC/DC in spring of 2016 due to hearing problems

Most recently, Johnson hopped on stage with Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood for a rendition of "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66."

The gig took place at the drummer's Maui restaurant and bar, Fleetwood's On Front St.

Fleetwood recently released his new book Love That Burns: A Chronicle of Fleetwood Mac, Volume One: 1967-1974.

He told Salon earlier this year that with the new book he wants readers to "understand what motivated and started the band. It was this whole love of playing music, for no other reason. We didn't have any preconceived, 'We're going to be that type of band' [notions] — we were just playing blues, which had no success formula attached to it at that point in time, at all."

Despite Johnson's unceremonious departure from AC/DC during the band's Rock or Bust World Tour, he expressed no hard feelings towards his former band.

"On stage, it was getting harder and harder to hear the guitars, even hear the keys, and I was basically going on muscle memory," Johnson told The Sunday Times. "And I'm not the kind of guy who likes to cheat. The way I look at it, I had a great run."

The frontman has since recorded on Jim Breuer's Songs From the Garage hard rock album joined other artists like Robert Plant and Muse for on stage collaborations.

Johnson says his hearing loss is not due to playing thousands of loud rock concerts over the years. He says it mostly stems from an injury he sustained while auto-racing without ear protection.

Multiple rock journalists with ties to AC/DC have stated confidently since the band toured with Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose that guitarist Angus Young is determined to record a new album and tour with Rose as AC/DC.
